Frequently Asked Questions

What is KinCore.org all about?

KinCore Incorporated is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Corporation that provides free to low-fee and full service Ancestry DNA tests and genealogy research services for individuals seeking an accurate, detailed map of their heritage, lineage and ethnic coalesce.

What are the goals of KinCore.org? Why join this movement?

The goal of KinCore is to build the genetic ancestry community by providing access to current ancestry technologies to reconnect families that otherwise have been disconnected for generations.

How do the efforts of KinCore.org impact society as a whole?

By increasing diverse participation we begin to create an accurate view of our human evolution and learn of our migration patterns. Active participation also gives us an opportunity to initiate and develop strong community ties that inspire dialogue, mutual understanding and tolerance as our perceptions of ethnicity, group identity and interrelations are redefined through our ancestry results.

Why should I care about my ancestry and the past?

Learning about your ancestry can uncover the unknown about family traits, health and relationships that span generations. This information will impact your world outlook and could positively influence how we live our lives today. For some, the results provide inspiration to follow our dreams as we gain deeper insight into our family origins and traits.

I’m on the fence learning about my test results. Can you customize my results?

We understand feelings of uncertainty about family rediscovery. While we cannot customize any test results, we are ready to provide you with an ancestry DNA test and the resulting information whenever you’re ready to learn about your story.

Who is eligible for an Ancestry DNA Test through KinCore.org?

One free test will be provided per household to an eligible adult, 18 years or older. However; should you prefer to not be placed on our waiting list and have the means to purchase a discounted test, please click [here] to view our offerings, special rates and to place your order.

Please explain free to low-fee ancestry DNA tests?

As determined by available funding, free tests are accessible for those of us without the financial means to otherwise obtain this significant information, and low-fee rates are for those with the fiscal capacity to assist in funding their journey of self-discovery and relationship building

What if I do not require fee assistance? Do I still qualify?

Absolutely. Those of us having the financial means to get involved benefit from negotiated rates from our ancestry test provider. KinCore members have the option of purchasing Ancestry DNA tests and other services from our services partner, Dynamic DNA Laboratories at special MEMBER rates. Please visit KinCore.org Ancestry Test Services for services and pricing.

Does KinCore.org provide maternal (mtDNA) and paternal (yDNA) ancestry tests?

To build the genetic ancestry community and start you on this important discovery journey, we only provide the test everyone can take, the maternal mtDNA test. The mtDNA ancestry test reveals shared DNA through your maternal line and is transferred from mother to her children both male and female. This test highlights ethnic mixes, migration routes and genetic “cousins” found within your maternal bloodline.

Males must take the paternal line ancestry test because yDNA is only transferred from male to male. Females wanting this test must have access to father, uncle, or brother, etc.

KinCore.org offers this test at a member discount to those seeking a connection with their paternal bloodline. For additional paternal yDNA testing information, please click [here]

Can I request multiple tests for additional household members?

If eligible, KinCore will provide one ancestry DNA test per household at no charge thanks to KinCore donors, grants, supporters and sponsors. If you would like testing kits for additional persons in your household, they are available at a reduced rate, which we’ve negotiated with our ancestry test provider. For more information, please click [here].

Does KinCore.org actually process the ancestry DNA tests?

KinCore does not process the test, provide results or analysis to individuals. We partner with an established and respected Ancestry DNA testing company to manage the test and process results.

In addition to receiving our lower rates, by partnering with KinCore you are making a commitment to not only further your own knowledge but to also be a part of a vast community of others with the same goals of deepening our connections by bridging racial and generational gaps. Essentially, you will be a part of reconnecting humanity!

How is the sample collected for the ancestry DNA test?

We use a cheek swab sample test kit.

Do you analyze health information?

KinCore.org offers DNA health screening through some of our ancestry laboratory partners. Please [click here] for additional services at special KinCore Member rates.

How long before I obtain test results?

Generally, test results take from six to eight weeks from the time we receive your test sample; however, longer wait times may occur.

How will I receive my test results?

As test results are processed, you will receive an email notification from our ancestry test vendor to set up an account on their secure website. When logged into the website all relevant information, such as test kit number, test date, progress, genetic matches, etc. is available for your review.

What happens after I receive my test results?

After your results are posted to your secure account (e.g., test status, ethnic mix breakdown, name and email of genetically matched “kin” and the genetic distance from your matched “cousins”), you will have access to support from genealogist specialists to help interpret the results, if needed. You also have the ability to import your results into other ancestry databases to find additional genetic matches along your ancestral line.

Do you provide a pie-chart breakdown of my ancestry mix?

KinCore.org provides our participants with a comprehensive view of their ancestral migration patterns, ethnic mix percentages, haplogroups (groups sharing a common ancestor) and the ability to reconnect with matching genetic DNA “cousins.”

When the results indicate genetic or “family” matches between you and others in the database, we provide you with the contact information (name and email address), provided both parties have an authorized genetic match contact release form on file.

What if I don’t feel comfortable communicating with my matches?

That is a normal feeling to have after reviewing your family matches. KinCore can help facilitate the contact between you and your newly found “cousin”, if desired. Please keep in mind the primary goal of KinCore.org is for participants to reconnect with their kin.

How is KinCore.org funded?

KinCore is funded by donations from the general public, fundraising campaigns such as the One Voice, One PeopleConcert Series, Grants and Sponsorships.

Do you share my results with other companies or organizations?

We do not share your results with other companies and/or organizations. Our third party vendor used secures the results. Only you will have access through an assigned login provided directly by the vendor.
